About this kind of model
- How far apart do the gears go?
- Centre distance = (sum of tooth counts ÷ 2) × module. The pair above is (20+40)/2 × 2 = 60 mm. For printed gears add another 0.1–0.2 mm or they will bind.
- Can I get exact dimensions?
- Yes. Every dimension takes a typed value — dragging is just the fast way in. That is what mating parts, snap-fits and hole alignment need.
- What if it does not fit when printed?
- Measure the real object first, then state those numbers — that alone gets most parts right on the first try. And leave tolerance: 0.2–0.4 mm is typical for snap-fits, depending on your printer.
- Can I reprint it at another size?
- Yes, and this is where it saves the most time: make the key dimension a parameter and a new size is one number away — the whole model recomputes itself.
- Will my slicer read the file?
- Yes. STL is universal; 3MF carries real units, so nothing arrives 1000× too small.
