What this actually means
- Type any dimension instead of dragging it — for parts that must fit something, this is the only reliable way.
- Measure point to point, face to face, hole centre to hole centre, whenever you need it. No mental arithmetic.
- Alignment and patterns are first-class: three evenly spaced holes is one sentence, not three placements.
- Units stay consistent: millimetres throughout, and carried into the export — nothing silently becomes inches or metres.
Common questions
- How much tolerance should I leave?
- 0.1–0.2 mm for a tight fit, 0.2–0.4 mm for a normal one, 0.5 mm to slide freely. Those are typical FDM figures; your machine has the final say, and a test coupon settles it fastest.
- Can I work in inches?
- You can type inches (it converts), but internally and on export everything is millimetres. Mixed units are this field's classic accident, so they are tolerated only at the input layer.
- How do I guarantee two parts actually fit?
- Make the mating dimension a parameter shared by both parts — change it once and both follow. Far more reliable than remembering to change two places.
